Calgary, AB – The Mustangs took full advantage of an opportunity to redeem themselves against the Camrose Kodiaks on Thursday. Facing off against the team who had beaten them just four days earlier, home ice proved to be just what Calgary needed as they were able to topple the Kodiaks 5-3. Joseph Karpyshyn wasted no time in scoring the game’s first goal on the powerplay, 1:22 into the first frame. The game would pinball back and forth during the first, with each team scoring twice, ending with a 2-2 draw after 20 minutes of play. Daniel Rybarik remained red hot, scoring the Mustangs second goal in the frame, and his seventh goal in the team’s last six games.

The second period started in a similar fashion, with Mustangs forward Liam Freeborn potting a powerplay marker just 1:49 into the period. Although the Kodiaks managed to tie the game back up at three, a quick response from Calgary broke the tie again just 11 seconds later. Karpyshyn netted his second of the night, giving Calgary a 4-3 advantage heading into the third. Kodiaks had several chances in the final frame, but Mustangs goaltender Ashton Abel stood tall, stopping 27 shots in the win. Andres Bridewater would add an empty netter to secure the 5-3 victory.

Sunday's tilt against Whitecourt would go the distance, with Mustangs falling short in the shootout. Ryan Grant would open for the scoring for the Wolverines with a powerplay goal at the 12:50 mark of the first period. Scoring would cease for both teams, until Mustangs twenty-year-old Chase Miller would break the tie 55 seconds into the second period. Wolverines would retake take the lead however, courtesy of a shorthanded effort from Bjorn Robinson. Late in the third, it would be Joseph Karpyshyn who would crack Whitecourt netminder Ben Rishaug, sending the game into extra-time with a 2-2 tie. The game would head to a shootout following a scoreless overtime frame. Karpyshyn, Miller and Barclay were each unable to beat Rishaug, as Wolverines forward Mackenzie Harden would net the lone goal in the shootout, proving to be the winner in the 3-2 loss for the Mustangs.

After Tuesday's matchup with Brooks, the Mustangs proved to the AJHL that they are a force to be reckoned with. The Bandits had lost just two games prior to the 7:30 pm puck drop and were looking to improve to a 25-2 record, wihch would be topping all teams. Mustangs had plans of their own, quickly showing their preparation and relentlessness in the first period. Joseph Karpyshyn, Mitchell Watson and Reece Soukoroff each netted a goal in the opening 3:12 of the first, putting the Bandits on their heels.

Mustangs cooled off in the second period, allowing Brooks to settle in and began to battle their way back into the game. Simon Boyko and Adranik Armstrong would net goals at 7:50 and 12:18 to cut the Calgary lead to 3-2. Calgary native Tanner Klassen would add some insurance for the Mustangs in the third, potting his sixth goal of the season, increasing the lead to 4-2. Brooks forward Jacob Lee would get one more goal to get within one, but it would be as close as the Bandits would come. Mustangs goaltender Ashton Abel would stop the rest, finishing with 34 saves in the underdog win.
